Actually, this is probably JUST the situation which Caldera faced when
trying to get commercial applications available for Linux.  By nailing
down exactly the installation that was supported, they relieved them-
selves of a large portion of head-scratching technical support.  While
PART of the way that Caldera went about it was REALLY wrong (forcing 
you to buy the Network Desktop product in order to buy the Office 
Suite product), I believe that Caldera stated that it was part of the
licensing agreement they had.

Truthfully, I'd prefer to know exactly what distribution something is
known to be stable in.  If I then take it into my hacked-together 
Slackware system, at least I have a reference as to which packages I
would need to upgrade.
