I added a user, but assigned them the httpd server doc root as their home
directory (instead of /home/user). Got a couple of errors (can't find their
.bash_profile. etc) and now, all users but root show as "I have no
name!@preview" (preview is the hostname).

No one but root can su to any other user (if you try as anyone other than
root, you are told that user does not exist). I suspect that the username
is not being tagged to a UID, but I can't seem to fix it. I've even deleted
user entries from passwd, shadow and removed their home directories and
then recreated with no success.
I went through this earlier this month, but for the life of me, I can't
remember what i did to fix it. It also seems it started when I changed this
particular user's home directory.

pwck does not show any errors either...
