Thanks to Steve Wills I now know that CD #2 in the official RedHat
distribution holds source code packages (SRPMS) that are not compatible
with GLINT.
As I told Steve:
"I didn't know about SRPMS. I didn't know that CD 2 held only source. I
only looked on CD 2 after GLINT told me that it couldn't find any packages
on CD1 (looking in /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS). I went back and tried using
GLINT with CD1 again just now and it worked fine. I can only guess that
the first time I tried using it I wasn't logged in as root, or maybe I
didn't have the CD mounted, or I made some other newbie/user error.
Whatever the problem, it's working fine now."
