Hi,

We're looking to build a "technology classroom" consisting of about 25
PC's. Currently, we have Sun Sparc 5s running Solaris that we use for
teaching our CS classes. The University also have a number of
networked PC's running Windows 95.

I am hoping to convince them to install dual-boot PC's with Linux and
Windows 95 so that we can continue to use a Unix system for our CS
classes and the other departments can use Windows for their needs - at
the moment the IT staff is planning to just install Windows 95.

I have my single user RedHat 4.2 system at home that runs fine, but I
know very little about networking. I'm certain it's possible to
connect the Linux machines to the Suns. Can anyone provide me with
the info I will need to respond to the IT staff when they complain
that it is too much work to support another platform and make them
work together?

Can we simply NFS mount the Sun directories on the Linux machines so
that there is a common home directory for the accounts?

Would we be better off have the entire Linux OS on each machine or
should we have one PC act as a server and boot off of that PC? Is it
possible to dual boot the PC into Linux and Windows with this setup?

I'm certain I'll have more questions soon. If anyone has experience
in connecting Sun Solaris and Linux PCs' together, and is willing to
answer some questions for me, please contact me.

This is probably better done of the list and then I can post a summary
to the list if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Dave Reed
