Hello, Whenever I install RedHat linux, it always gives me a lot of stuff that I don't need. I am wondering what is the smallest configuration for RedHat Linux 4.2 so that I can do the following... 1. Cruse the Net using X Windows (kill redbarron, I will use Netscape) - also kill FVWM 95 by RedHat and customized by RedHat except for their configuration utilites 2. Run email, telenet, and news reader client (any good GUI email reader client?) 3. Have JAVA compiler and virtual machine 4. Be able to compile Kernel 5. Have major scripts programs such as Perl and C. 6. Basic and common unix command for printing such as genscript, ghostview, and msdos floopy reading commands such as mcopy and etc. 7. must have SMB server 8. PPP, Ethernet TCP/IP (DHCP and also assigned) Or maybe a shorter list: I want to KILL off any unwanted servers like HTTP, FTP, and so on and leave SMB server so that I can still communicate with my friends computers or my home computer running Windows. Otherwise all should be gone. Also, no more unnecessary development libraries except for basic C, C++ compiler and sufficient to compile the kernel. I guess I just want a system that occusionally I can write a short C, C++, scripts, and JAVA. No more of X-Windows development stuffs. Just strictly designed to run the system as a user with absolutly no interest in software design. from Henry Chih-Hsiang Yao [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PLEASE read the Red Hat FAQ, Tips, Errata and the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES! http://www.redhat.com/RedHat-FAQ /RedHat-Errata /RedHat-Tips /mailing-lists To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
