Ok first thanks to Dave for his patience. The solution was to combine information from the kernald Howto and the Jaz Mini HowTo. first I finally picked the correct driver for the jaz jet card. which is advansys.o second use modprobe to generate the /etc/conf.modules file with the command: modprobe -c | grep -v ^path > /etc/conf.modules edit this file so that the line : alias scsi_hostadapter off , reads alias scsi_hostadapter advansys NOW run modprobe advansys and watch the fun , you can now access the drive. All of this is exactly what Dave said except It only took 2 days to figure out that I was using the WRONG driver, as well as figure out all this module stuff. OPPS. The light is a little clear on some of this stuff. Now to configure sound.
