Ok first thanks to Dave for his patience.

The solution was to combine information from the kernald Howto and the
Jaz Mini HowTo.

first I finally picked the correct driver for the jaz jet card.  which is
advansys.o

second use modprobe to generate the /etc/conf.modules file
with the command:   modprobe -c | grep -v ^path > /etc/conf.modules

edit this file so that the line : alias scsi_hostadapter off ,    reads

alias scsi_hostadapter advansys

NOW run

modprobe advansys

and watch the fun , you can now access the drive.


All of this is exactly what Dave said  except It  only took 2 days to figure out
that I was using the WRONG driver, as well as figure out all this module stuff.

OPPS.

The light is a little clear on some of this stuff.  Now to configure sound.  (OH
BOY).
