Hi, Dell Optiplex, PII 266, 64M ram, ATI Rage Pro 4 meg video. Trying to install X on it. Kept getting "out of range" monitor errors using various settings through Xconfigurator, so thinking that it might be related to the Mach 64 server problems with Xfree86, I decided to try Metro-X. The GUI configX for Metro seemed ok--vidcard supported and all that-- but I can't get startx to work at all... Here's what happens when I try: xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): no server "X" in PATH Use the -- option, or make sure that /usr/X11R6/bin is in your path and that "X" is a program or a link to the right type of server for your display. [root@localhost /root]# (/usr/X11R6/bin is indeed in my path, but there seems to be nothing in /usr/X11R6/bin/X...what should be? is it just "exec /wherever/Xserver/is &" ?) Here's what /var/log/Xerrors gives me: Metro Link, Inc Version 4.1.0/ X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6300) Operating System: Linux 2.0.31 i586 [ELF] XF86Config: /etc/X11/XMetroconfig (**) stands for supplied, (--) stands for probed/default values (**) FontPath set to "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi, /usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" (**) RgbPath set to "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Metro/rgb" (**) ModulePath set to "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Metro/modules" (**) XKB: keymap: "none" (overrides other XKB settings) (**) Mouse: type: PS/2, device: /dev/mouse Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Metro/modules/libextmod.a loading extension SHAPE loading extension Multi-Buffering loading extension MIT-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD loading extension BIG-REQUESTS loading extension SYNC loading extension MIT-SCREEN-SAVER loading extension XC-MISC loading extension XFree86-VidModeExtension loading extension XFree86-Misc loading extension XFree86-DGA loading extension DPMS Out of loader space Out of loader space Out of loader space Out of loader space Out of loader space thanks for any help you can offer on this. I tried the SuSE Mach 64 rpm for Xfree and that didn't seem to help, although I suspect there is a conflict between the server configs somewhere but I am not sure where, or how...also this machine doesn't have a net connection yet so I can't upgrade X versions for now... appreciate it! jeremy Recipients: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PLEASE read the Red Hat FAQ, Tips, Errata and the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES! http://www.redhat.com/RedHat-FAQ /RedHat-Errata /RedHat-Tips /mailing-lists To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
