Does Linux use the ***te "filename"*** command or something similar 
     when one wants to do some quick editing on an ascii file?  The Solaris 
     environment allows this command, just wondering if Linux allows the 
     same?
     
     Also, is there a way to perform a comprehensive search for a 
     particular text string throughout a directory structure?  Sort of like 
     a global grep command....as opposed to using grep on one file at a 
     time...
