I've installed lotsa things and haven't had problems that a simple
deletion couldn't cure (except one and that was after I'd had Linux
running for 2 days after a first-time install). So far, anyway.

The RPM database doesn't know about anything that isn't installed via
rpm.

No idea. Haven't tried it. But, I _have_ installed a few rpms as
upgrades that U later had to completely remove just to get rid of the
glitches and then reinstall the older version. If you get one of the
above named packages and then choose to change it to Redhat, you could
always uninstall the previous verion before installing the Redhat.
