That is weird. Removing the monitor should not cause your system to crash. As Ian stated, it might be hardware related. In fact, I configure all my headless boxes at runlevel 5, but I disable display :0 so that X will not start at the console (but still answers XDMCP requests from the network). > > It may be the hardware. FWIW: I have 3 headless linux boxes that issued the same error until I found the proper setting in the motherboards BIOS. Worth a try!
