You're right, I know better.  Had a brain fart.  Wasn't thinking, just
in a hurry.

I think its OK but I'm scared to try and mount the SMB filesystem.  I'll
give it a day or two to heal itself a little.  :-)

You serious? You know better than that! Thrashing hard disk means
something is going on. You DO NOT pull a plug at that stage. I've had
hard disks thrash for 10 minutes before. No biggie. Depends on what it's
doing at the time.

Probably. Try booting single and running chkconfig to turn SMB off on
runlevel 3 or 5 (whatever you're using)
