Hi list,

I have recently set up two computers, with the aim of networking. Both
computers have 2 nic cards in them. My main pc, has onboard intel lan,
and one realtek nic, the second has two realtek nics. Both are
networked in windows xp no problems, and both are accessing the internet
as well.

In RH8, the main pc had the second nic installed after the o/s install.
I can't get this system to activate the nic at all. On the second pc,
the o/s was intalled after everything was installed, and both of the
nics activate, but don't go anywhere. With regard to the nic connected
to my modem/router, on the main pc, I use static set ip, and the
settings are 10.0.0.1 for ip, subnet mask of 255.0.0.0, and gateway of
10.0.0.138 (my modem/router). This works no probs, and always has.
When I use the same settings on the other pc for the internet nic, this
gets me nowhere, it does not want to access the net.

With regard to the network nics (obviously the one on each computer that
I do not have connected to the modem/router) I just want to connect them
card to card, using a crossover cable. This is done, and as I said, in
windows no probs setting it up. I can not get the card on my main pc to
even activate in RH (this card was installed after the o/s). On the
other pc, it is activated.

What is going on with the second pc and the internet connection? I
though the same settings as the main pc would work (other than a
different ip address, which I set to 10.0.0.11).
How do I go about setting up the nic to nic network? What tools are
there available for me to use, and where is a good tutorial on how to
set it all up?

regards Greg
