Hi Friends!
I tried installing RH 8.0 (that came along with the
book
Red Hat Linux Bible 8.0)
This is a summary of what I did.
I partitioned my 20BG HDD into 1. 7gb Pri. Dos and installed windows 98 (to avoid windows overwriting the MBR had I installed it later) 2. 7gb as logical drive (D: drive in windows lang) left the remaining space for Linux doing nothing like formatting or partitioning. Have I gone correct upto this? Then when I tried installing RH 8.0 or PCQuest Linux 7.2, it would not install. Please let me know how to use Disk Druid/Automatic partitioning/ Linux-fdisk and make partitions for Linux installation. I would like to go for a workstation install. When working with Disk Druid I get this
error.
Warning: Boot partition may not meet booting
constraints
for your architecture. Creation of boot disk is
highly recommended.
It is accepting only two partitions and there after
defining the error:
Cannot allocate requested partitions.
Partitioning failed:
Somehow when I could pass all these erros, during
reading packages
in installation, the process starts with a list of
errors like
An unhandled exception has
occurred:
Traceback (most recent and
last):
File "/usr/lib/anaconda/gui.py line 786 in
handle RenderCallBack
blah
blah
blah
OSError: [Errno 12] cannot allocate
memory
This is asking me to save this in a floppy and
submit to bugzilla of
redhat site. Then I
tried installing with automatic partition. It is giving the following
error:
/dev/hda is inconsistent.
Linux detected BIOS geometry incorrectly.
This might cause (fixable) problems ,etc,
etc
I cancelled it and it rebooted the system.
Don't know how to proceed please help.
Thanks much,
Jenin |
