I had many problems using LPR using CUPS was easier(but then I'm a newbie). Found this on the Net, thought it might help it worked for me.
This is the command: /usr/sbin/alternatives --config print There are 2 programs which provide 'print'. Selection Command ----------------------------------------------- + 1 /usr/bin/lpr.cups * 2 /usr/bin/lpr.LPRng Enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number: 1 this is basically what i understand. stop LPR, start CUPS and configure. use the above command to set CUPS as default(permanently), restart and presto.
