I had this problem until I ran a disk utility that was included with the
hard disk. I had never run it before and Win95 worked so I assumed it was
unnecessary. After a week of getting all the way through the installation
only to be unable to install LILO, I ran the utility and the next
installation was a breeze. The problem had to do with BIOS support for
disks > 528MB.
