You have to remember that RH didn't write any of the programs you mentioned. I do feel your pain and your complaint is shared by many newcomers to Linux. Regretfully, there will still be some nuances in RH 8.1. I just installed 8.1 beta3 and shook my head because of some old quirks are still there.
If I were you, I'd subscribe to the respective program's mailing list and voice your concerns.
