It actually turned out to be pretty darned easy. I read dmesg to figure out which USB port to use (actually, it just showed me two USB ports, and I used the one which wasn't taken up by the mouse), then created the symlink /dev/pilot -> /dev/ttyUSB1. I set the permissions on both /dev/pilot and /dev/ttyUSB1 to 777 (a tad lenient, I suppose, but nothing else seemed to work). I also had to upgrade pilot-link. Maybe that was the crucial link.
Then, because I'm using Evolution, I went into gnomecc and set the Pilot configuration to point at /dev/pilot; it was originally set to point at /dev/cua0. Then I take the annoying extra step of opening an Xterm and launching gpilotd; once that's done, everything works like a charm. Lastly, double-check and make sure you're running the latest versions of pilot-link and gnome-pilot. Earlier versions don't do USB. > Ok, How did evrybody get their palm to sync up via the USB port? > > I have not been able to do it.
