Specifically, with undocked situations there may be an issue with lockups and ext3 being unable to recover the file system. He noted he had 3 similar lockups to mine and all required rebuilding the entire system. As in my case, he has a laptop that has a very small docking station: smaller than normal but a little more functional than a port replicator. Anyway, he thought his may have been attributed to overheating. Like mine, his laptop has a tendency to heat up abit when not in this dock. On my Toshibe, the fan is located right where one's thigh will be when the laptop rests on your legs. We thought maybe heat was the issue but this doesn't explain why he saw this 3 times. I don't think it was undocked all three time with him but maybe. Anyway, my lock up occurred undocked as did his. Both resulting in a completely ruined filesystem. This is odd seeing as I've shutdown uncleanly before and had very little in the way of issues booting. I would think the point of a journalling filesystem would mean easier recovery, though that is a relative term. I find it odd that both occured under almost identical circumstances. I've run my laptop undocked before, however, with no issues. In fact, it hadn't been running more than a few minuted when this occurred My friend theorized that perhaps the BIOS level power management was a possible contributor. The question for the group is, has anyone else notice RH8 having issues with laptops where a crash ruined the filesystem? His answer was to load FreeBSD (his OS of choice anyway). I'm not ready to goto such manical ends just yet (j/k...a little joke there). Any ideas? Thoughts? <<JAV>> -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
