I have just completed my first install of Linux, it is version 7.2. I had
issues with the installation (red hat was telling me I did have enough ram
memory, the system has 256 megs of ram) I set an email to another red hat
list and was told the following:

I have to identical configuration with the exception, I have 512 megss of
ram. I had the same error message which is due the Linux unable to
detect the total memory install in the system. What I did to get around
this problem was at the boot prompt, type the following for your system:

Linux mem=exactmap [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

After Installation, you will need to add the following to the lilo.conf.
(I do not know how to add this to grub, so I would recommend selecting
lilo during the installation procedures)

prompt
timeout=50
default=linux
boot=/dev/ida/c0d0
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
message=/boot/message
linear
append=" mem=exactmap [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] root=LABEL=/"

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-14
        label=linux
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.18-14.img
        read-only
        #append="root=LABEL=/"

I did what the person said and was able to install the linux operating
system, However now what is happening is my gnome desktop crashes with the
following error: Application "panel" (process 1151) has crashed due to
fatal error (Segmentation fault). Can someone explain what a segmentation
fault is and how due I correct this problem?
