This second reading (timing buffered disk reads) with doing some adjustments with hdparm, I have gotten to be as high as 96-100 MB/sec without a load. With a load this reading is at times as low as 2.5-2.7 MB/sec. Nothing has changed and all settings from 'hdparm -i /dev/hda' show the settings are still the same as before. The hard drive is a UDMA device. The CPUs have not breaken a sweat according to 'top'. However, the load average floats between 40-80. I know this is related to the drive activity. As soon as the load average drops in the middle of the night to around 10-15 things seem ok for a while. > > I was over a regular PC P4 at 1Gz , with a IDE > disk 40 GB > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Richard Head" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 11:51 PM > Subject: Hard Drive Issues with RH9.0 > > > > I have RH9.0 installed on a mail server.
