Simplest and most useful answer...add another 128 megs of ram. Barring that,
make sure that you don't have an services running that you don't need, lower
video to 16 bit if you have it higher; use hdparm to potentially speed HD
access, if that all fails and ram is not an option, use another WM like
Icewm or XFce.
