Ed, thank you for your reply. I haven't contacted 3com, but according to the info (faq #6) on http://www.homepna.org/support/faqs.asp the card is compatible with Linux. It's just that I read somewhere that the driver mentioned in the website above was compiled with an older version of gcc, which made it unworkable (for beginners like me) in a Redhat 8.
