If you can't fix it any other way, you might simply be able to adjust your monitor. It sounds like possibly a sync issue when the resolution changed and your monitor repsonded by moving the image. Usually this happens more with a refresh rate change rather than resolution, but I'd give it a shot.

Launch the control center, go to Appearance and Themes / Window Decorations. Some of the themes allow you to add and remove buttons via the Configure tab.
