This is hazardous.  Instead you should do this:

Boot the install disk and at the LILO prompt type
linux root=/dev/<your-root-partition> initrd=""

This will make it boot as if your kernel were on the hard drive.

Then you can log in as root and edit /etc/lilo.conf.  Put your new Win95
install in the lilo.conf information (use any previous Win95 installs as a
pattern, you should only have to change the partition) and then run
/sbin/lilo.

I can't immediately see anything wrong with doing an upgrade, but it may
(will) juggle all your config files, etc. which might be inconvenient.
