I have a bunch of Linux PCs, all with exactly the same config and hardware. (RH9 over LTSP on Dell Optiplex G1s)
Each of these machines has an optical USB intellimouse connected to the PS/2 port by means of an adapter that comes with the mouse.
According to the various posts I've read on newsgroups and google, the following should enable the side mouse-buttons on these mice:
edit /etc/X11/XF86config Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Buttons" "7" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7" EndSection
However, once I load up X-Windows, and then fire up "xev", it only registers 5 of the mouse buttons, rather than all seven.
Only buttons 1 (left click) 2 (middle click) 3 (right click) 4 (wheel up) 5 (wheel down) are registered. Clicking the mouse's side buttons, which should be buttons 6 and 7 does nothing.
Does anyone have any clues, cause I've scoured the web, and come up with absolutely zip so far - and according to all the posts I *have* seen, this should be a relatively simple task.
The only thing that I'm wondering is whether the protocol is correct - I've read in places that the fact the mouse is *not* an intellimouse explorer is irrelevant since it still has the same number of buttons - presume this is OK?
Another thing confusing me is that all the posts I have seen refer to the usage of imwheel to get the scroll-wheel working - but mine works anyway... I installed RH9, and it just worked. Although I accept I'll need imwheel to configure the side buttons, they should at least register in xev before running imwheel right?
TIA
