Firstly, you do need to get a version of ltmodem that exactly corresponds with your kernel. You can find out your kernel version by typing uname -r .. you should find a version of ltmodem to correspond with it if you haven't updated the kernel (and possibly if you have, not sure), note that you'll have to reinstall the ltmodem rpm for every new kernel that you use.
