This happened to me when I upgraded gcc-2.7.2.3 to 2.8.0 and recompiled
libc with it; then when later I switched back to 2.7.2.3 because of the
ioport.c and other bugs, everything that I had in the interim compiled
with the newer gcc and libc broke (I recompiled libc with the older gcc
again) with this error that you describe. I had to recompile everything
I had linked against the 2.8.0-compiled glibc. Ever since I've been
hesitant to use 2.8.1 even; and from what I gather the ioport.c (it
affects X too) problem persists even with 2.8.1 . Don't know why or
how.
