Hello, Everyone,

I have linux and xp dual boot using grub. I need to reinstall xp for
some reason but it seems to be difficult without a floppy drive.

More specifically, the usual way (as far as I know) to do this is:
1. make a floppy boot disk using
  > mkbootdisk
2. re-install windows xp.
3. boot to linux with the floppy disk.
4. re-install grub.

However, my machine does not have a floppy drive. (This seems to be more
and more common for new machines.) Can I use other boot devices to do
this? Available options are CD-RW and USB external harddrive.

Many thanks in advance.
