The scenario:
-Redhat 5.0 on both an NIS server and client with all errata rpms
installed. Installation works great, but we really need the enhanced
security of shadow passwords.
-Run pwconv on both machines.
-Update the Makefile in /var/yp to now take into account shadow passwds.
-Run make - no errors and I see that shadow.byname created for domain.
-Back to the client machine, my non-privelged user id (joeblow) still
exits (as evidents by doing an ls -l on files he owns and seeing the
user name, not the numeric id) but i can't login as him.
-Back to the server machine. Run pwunconv, run make in /var/yp.
-Back to the client machine. Attempt login as joeblow - SUCCESS.
I have read the NIS howto, scoured web sites, but can't find a clue as
to why this isn't working:(
Maybe you can help:)
TIA
