Actually, there are also disadvantages that one should be aware of:
- splitting partitions can cause trouble when you decide to increase the
disk capacity of that partition in six months. What do you do with that
700M /var partition, when it becomes near-full, and you decide to add
another disk specifically for that partition?
- splitting partitions with the intention for future growth can be
difficult. What happens when you have 500M free on your /usr partition,
because you've decided to also split it into /usr/X11R6, where all your
applications are stored? All at the expense of possibly having another
partition with its bounds being approached...
