to get the list of updates available. I noticed that my system is not up to date so I downloaded the packages with a:
up2date -d
Why not a "up2date -u" which will download _and_ update the packages in one step?
Can anyone tell me whether the up2date only updates new releases of a software or new versions of a software, or both?
Both. However, it probably does not know accurately what you have installed. Issue a "up2date -p" command (p for profile, I think) and your computer will tell RHN exactly what packages are installed so that you get notified of all applicable downloads.
