Is the client computer using CUPS? Did you run redhat-switch-printer, or whatever that program is called? (All this is to say, are you sure?)


I probably have my firewall set up
incorrectly, but I can mount a directory on the host computer in the
client computer using NFS and I can ssh between them. I suppose there
are different ports involved, however.

Make sure that TCP port 631 is open between those two computers (and make sure it is closed off from the Internet!).


Either way, neither the Redhat
printer configuration tool nor the localhost:631 tool (whatever it's
called) show me a list of possible printers. They both ask for a
location.

What happens if you give it a location? I forget how to write locations for CUPS, but it might be something like "ipp://server/printer". Anyway, check the docs for the correct way to write the location.
