Boy, I feel silly then. Yes, I've been through many of the HOWTO's on
usr/docs/HOWTO and guess still don't quite get it...
How would you recommend doing this using Ethernet..? Is there a specific
HOWTO addressing this situation? In that case then, what is the IP address
going to be set at? The other machine...?

Don't worry, it takes time to come to grips with networking.
Make sure that you also have the TCP/IP protocol setup in win95. From
there all you need to to decide on is what IP address to give yourself.
Use the private IP address range, 192.168.xxx.xxx. So for example on my 2
PC LAN here at home my Linux box has an IP address of 192.168.10.10 and the
win95 machine as an address of 192.168.10.9
