I'm having trouble with lost routes underneath RedHat 5.0 i386.

The machine has 1 Intel Ethernet Express PRO 100, and I've upgraded
the net_alias_max to allow me to assign up to 512 IP addresses to
the card, and the kernel has been modified to allow up to 1024
open files per process.

It seems that several of the routes set in my rc.local are not loading
properly, and there does not seem to be any problem with the command
itself, as the only change in months is the addition of another 40 or
so routes and configurations for new IP addresses.

Is it possible that there is a limitation to the number of routes one
can have set in the table, and can I modify it underneath the /proc
filesystem? I've found several files there which list the missing
routes, but none of those IP addresses are actually responding to
any requests.

---

One other nuisance problem I have is the machine suddenly losing it's
connection to the network, at which appears to be the point when the
rc.local finishes executing it's contents. It's almost as if someone
had typed `ifdown eth0` at the command prompt, but that's not the
case. In order to circumvent I've put a crontab to do `ifup eth0` for
me, but it's not always quick enough, and sometimes I have to wait
5-10 minutes before I can access the machine. I have two machines
set up identically, same hardware configuration, and I've been thinking
that it could be something hardware related, but it never drops the
thing again, only after I reboot it.

Any suggestions are welcome. :}
