:Bought a trident 9680 card because it was on the linux "supported" list
and find now that it is not
:x-config list that I believe is part of metro-x (when doing startx)
:Suggestions on supporting this card?

This card is indeed linux supported. However, it may not appear in the
Metro-X database. Not to diss the efforts of Metro-X, but again, i don't
find it to be of any value to me. To get the Trident 9680 to work *best*
use the Xconfigurator, suppiled by Red Hat. It will detect your card as a
Trident 9660, and it should work fine. However, if you are not afraid of
*expert* mode (and why should you, it's a misnomer) try Xconfigurator
--expert, and select the card directly, for the optimal performance from
this card.

Of course, make sure your monitor settings are correct, and don't try to
push the limits, or you can do damage to the monitor. To be safe, be
conservative when choosing monitor settings.

I've used the Trident 9680 with several different PCs and with many
distributions, and it is a fine card for linux.
