It was a DNS problem when I had it.  Rename /etc/resolv.conf and try again.  Then fix 
resolv.conf

ok....I let the beast sit idle at the Starting sendmail, and it goes past
it, eventually, and then stops at SMB Services.  I haven't changed anything
for either of these.  This was booting in just a few seconds yesterday.
