Mutt trusts your terminfo. The standard xterm terminfo doesn't say
it supports color. Hence, you can do the following:
1) set COLORTERM to '1', 'yes', or most anything else.
Note: this only works if mutt is compiled against slang
2) set TERM to xterm-color, color_xterm, xterm-16color, xterm-xf86-v32/33/40,
or some such variant.
3) install a terminfo entry for xterm that says it supports color. Look
in /usr/X11R6/lib/etc/X11 for a sample entry.
