I have a US Robotics 56K internal modem on an AMD K6-3 box. When trying
to configure ppp I run into the following problem. When i try to connect
to my ISP my modem reports no dial tone.
I notice that if I have my phone off the hook - such that I can hear the
dial tone in the receiver and plug in a phone line into the computer -
the dial tone in my telephone disappears. I have rebooted and this does
not fix the problem.
I do not have the docs for my modem, but as I specified I did NOT want a
winmodem, I am fairly sure this is not a winmodem. I do not have the
exact model as where my work connection is (here) and where my computer
is (home) are a ways away. I believe my modem is a USR 56k V.90. Any
help you can pass my way would be greatly appreciated!
