I think we'd need more than a hypothetical situation :)
Are you still using sendmail, or have you switched?
Have you applied all the errata packages for 5.0 (and 5.1 and 5.2)? If
not, you could have some really nasty security problems on that box.
Could you send us the headers of a letter that this actually happened
to?
