I would not use SUSE yet. I was running RH 6.0, decided to try SUSE 6.2 and
just reinstalled RH 60.
Here is why:
- I found there were still language problems (unless you know German!).
- SUSE haa alot of their own configuration files along with the normal Linux
files that only their utils (i.e. YAST) updated. So if made a modification
without using YAST you wern't sure what would happen.
- Even though the English man pages were installed, they were left in a gzipped
state. Thus I had to unzip each one and redo each symbolic link. A real pain
in the a$$.
- When I sent emails to the tech support, all I got back was a "We know and
we're working on it" responce. Not even a "try this..." (This was for the
gzipped man pages)
- The RPM packages were not catagorized (i.e. X11 App, Lib, Syste, etc.)
- When I went to their US web site, certain links sent me to the German site
that was not yet configured for English users.
On the good side though, other than the config file mess;
- the packages all get installed in the default location. i.e. KDE goe in
/opt/kde not /usr/bin.
- The install program and YAST do a very good job of detecting your system setup
and getting it properly configured the first time.
- There is a good selection of packages available with the distrobution.
