Oh boy, I've really stepped in it this time.
I just upgraded a client's machine from 5.2 to 6.1 and now it doesn't print.
I've *never had a problem with printing failing on upgrade before!...
Anyway, when I send a job to lp, it goes into the queue, but the system just
sits there, acting like the printer needs to come back online (printer is up
and ready to go).

I've tried power-cycling the printer, but that does nothing.
I've upgraded lpr to 0.47-1 and printtool to 3.43-1 (if that's relevant), and
I have "alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc" in my /etc/conf.modules and the
modules lp, parport_pc, and parport all load.
Is there something else simple I'm missing? There's not much in the parport
kernel documentation that seemed helpful. If I can't get this figured out by
Friday when they want to print invoices, they're not going to ba happy. I
might have to reinstall 5.2 (is a downgrade possible?) if nothing else...

No, my friend, the way to have good and safe government, is not to trust it
all to one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to every one exactly
the functions he is competent to. It is by dividing and subdividing these
republics from the national one down through all its subordinations, until it
ends in the administration of every man's farm by himself; by placing under
every one what his own eye may superintend, that all will be done for the
best.
