I use 6.0 with an internal us robotics modem so
there is hope for you. You might want to start using
minicom at a console prompt to see if you can
talk to the modem, man minicom will give you
information. I think kde might have a similiar
program as part of its dial out program. I use
xfce not kde so I can not check. you also can
echo a phone number to /dev/ttyS1 or what
ever your modem is on and see if you can
here it dial.
