No Screensaver In Gnome

I cannot no way no how get screensavers to come on in Gnone.  I'm running 
6.1 with October Gnome.  I'm trying to run the screensavers in root.  I've 
set all the obvious settings in the control panel.  No luck.  Looked on the 
Red Hat site.  Nada.
