I find the easiest way to setup a network card is using linuxconf if
you're not too familiar with linux. Just configure the card with a
hostname, ip address, and the correct driver and you should be set. You
can check if it's working by using the ping command. Type ping x.x.x.x
with the ip address of the computer you want to ping. First check your
computer's nic card by pinging the address you gave it in linuxconf and
then try other ip addresses on your lan. Also, make sure that your
subnet mask allows you to see the ip addresses on your lan. For
instance, if the others computers have 192.168.1.x addresses, make sure
you give the linux machine a 192.168.1.x address with a subnet mask of
255.255.255.0. Hope this helps a little.

Subject: Newbie question about LAN
Dear friends;
I've installed RH6.0 on my computer in my office. It's connected to a
LAN
and I rally don't know how to setup my card? How should I find out that
my
NIC is detected correctly? I tried to setup an ethernet interface and
it I
think it worked but I didn't know what to do next.
I really appreciate if someone show me a brief how-to or an online
refrence about it or some short guidlines about how to brows a LAN and
find another computers on it. Thanks very much.
