Try removing or commenting out the ttfont directory line from /etc/X11/fs/config and do a /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs stop /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs start /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs status and see if xfs is running (I found restart wouldn't work if I got a 'xfs dead but subsys locked' message, unless I manually removed the lock) 'stop' clears the lock, I think. If it's the ttfonts doing it, then remove all spaces and caps from all the filenames in the ttfonts directory and run ttmkfdir again. You should then be able to return the ttfonts line to the /etc/X11/fs/config file and make it work... I've also added an adittional ttf directory with additional fonts, like times roman etc... Hope that helps (tho it seems lots of thing can go wrong with xfs - but it's lovely when it starts working!!!) tim -- --------------------------------------------------------- Tim & Therese Fairchild Atchafalaya Border Collies.
