That's true (sorta). crond is running all the time and using resources.
But not much and you can use nice to make it take even less. Use top to
see what's taking resources. running crond is not noticable on any of my
machines; certainly worth whatever resources it uses.
When I run top on a much slower machine, a P90, the crond process is shown
using zero CPU cycles.
