*** I had the same problem with an ATI AGP card. The problem turned out to
be a wrong configuration of the XFree86 config file. While trying to
streamline the configuration I added the chipset type and the amount of
video mem to the file. After rerunning the XFree setup prog I left out
some config lines and the problem was solved. I would look closely to your
config file and work on it.
