Not to flame more... but I'm with Clint here. My win95 box purchased when
I went to college has survived 9 upgrades (memory 2x, bios, proc 2x, hd
2x, cd 4x, bios...) and i have never had to image a new drive :)
As for corporate policy, flush'n'fill is the norm. WHen new MS service
packs come out, the corp I worked at would wipe the drive and
reinstall/image.
No, linux is not as easy to install as MS98. Given a decent set of
drivers I can (and do) turn out a working system in under 1 hour, 2 hours
if I have to construct it from scratch (and i can find all those little
screws). The 4th time I reinstalled linux on my 486 I had it down to a
little under 1 hour and 30 minutes... and even then that doesn't include
getting the NIC's and FTP working (which members that helped me on this
list I am still in debt to).
Thus said... I feel everything has it's place. MS windows may not be the
most efficient box, may not be the most stable, may not even be the
easiest to install... but dang it, it works :P
Now... back to my Linux Primer. :)
