That is a common misconception. Computer cases (especially good ones) are
designed specifically for air flow. Air comes in one vent and out another
(usually with the help of 1 or several fans). Leaving the case off causes
there not to be any air circulation over the components. Check for
yourself: many current computers have heat sensing abilities, just leave the
computer running with the case on until the temperature is stable, then take
the case off and see the temperature rise.
