Hello world!
We've just installed RH6.1 but We are having a problem:
The fact is that We are some users whose home directory is exported from a SUN
workstation server (NFS and NIS) and when compiling some codes on our homes in
many cases some objects are wrong dumped and on other cases the final link is
wrong.
Yes; very strange. When I mean final link I mean to copy the *.o to
/tmp/something/ and linking there => WORKS otherwise (linking at NFS
filesystem) the program crashes randomly...
When I mean that some objects are dumped wrongly I mean that You cannot
look inside the object with nm. The "funny" objects are random at a
compilation of hundreds of them usually two or three are wrong.
We are using autofs... but problem seems to happen on directly mounting the
filesystems.
SImilar problems happened with Mandrake (pgcc instead of egcs) but in such case
the involved objects tended to be always the same ones and usually only happened
for g++ compilations; while in RH61 it happens at linking also (I don't still
know if it happens at gcc or g77 compilations)
We are evaluating the portland group compilers (pgi) where the problem is not
happening! So... do We really need to move to commercial compilers?
Please, help!!!
TIA!
